Julianne feels sorry for Nips, who she’s known from childhood. But did you notice the deafening silence in the audience when she made her remarks about how good KS was?
No applause, no murmurs of agreement, no nothing. They weren’t having it. She is not well liked within the industry. You saw no one coming to her defense after she was exposed as a homewrecker. It even took months for Jodie Foster to write that essay in the HuffPo, and it was more about how child actors are treated than it was a defense of the cheater.
And this is why she won’t get an Oscar nomination. Those are made by her fellow actors, and they don’t love her. You need to have some degree of popularity in the Academy to get a nomination. She has pissed all over her fellow actors in interview after interview, insulting their abilities and range (it disgusts her to see someone cry on cue, pulling from their little “tool kit” of abilities).
They never forget an insult. Ever. All actors can recite their bad reviews. And you can bet they all remember her arrogant insults, too. She’s her own worst enemy, she always has been.
I didn’t watch the event so never saw the deafening silence. After the OTR push and now this her peers have to be shaking their head somewhat. I’ve never heard of an actor being so praised by their costar’s all the time. I also don’t get what she and her team think will happen if she gets a nomination or, God forbid, wins? It’s clear that she is not liked by the general public. Do they think that winning will change that? So it seems to me it’s more a vanity thing. I don’t really know how these things work and I could care less if she gets nominated or not so I’m not going to worry about it but I’m curious about Miss Nips motivation.

@Jaguar: Where did you hear Moore got her the role? Wash Westmoreland said Kristen’s agents reached out to them (and asked if they would be interested in her for the role). He said they’ve been fans since ‘Panic Room’ and wanted to meet her right away.
Maybe Moore had to agree with the choice or she even put in a good word for her after the meeting (I haven’t read that, though). But I don’t believe that should be considered “getting her the role” just like I don’t believe Kristen got Robert his role in ‘Twilight’ just because she said she liked his audition…
Moore suggested Baldwin and called him/asked him, so maybe you mixed that up? Or the director(s) said something different in another interview?!
And about the silence after the praise: Some people laughed after Moore said she’s still as special as she was when she was twelve, but they did clap (just not as long as for Moore herself) when Moore praised her ‘incredible compassionate performance’.
@Missy: The Oscar can be a huge deal and put your career into overdrive. It can mean more money, better roles offered to you and an overall better (more serious, critically praised) image. You become part of a club and if you play it right, you can always stay part of it. Of course, this doesn’t work for everyone. But Kristen fits the bill of those who gain a lot from a nom (she’s young (but not too young), white (this seems to be very important, sadly), already a name (but not too established) etc). But yes, it’s probably also a vanity thing for almost (?) everyone who campaigns.
Of course they are always Oscar wins (‘Crash“) and Oscar nominations (‘Extremely loud and…’) that get ridiculed and fought over in and outside of the industry. But you get to put “Oscar nominee” in front of your name and that can influence the public’s perception of you. Besides, Kristen’s reviews are good enough to warrant a nomination (but in no way a win), so I don’t think people inside the industry would fight over a nomination (too much). Especially since there are no five other actresses who are considered undeniable. Personally, I still don’t think she will be nominated, though. It really depends on how much people like the movie overall.
Of course, some great actors/directors/movies/etc. never get nominated and do more than fine. And the nominated people are rarely the top five in their field, but that doesn’t take away from the power of a nomination.
@!: I can understand how it looks like Kristen is no longer on top because ‘Camp X-Ray’ lost money and a part of the public seems to completely ignore her or dislike her. But she’s getting career best reviews for ’Clouds“ and even ’Still Alice’ (on a smaller scale).
A lot of critics wrote about how they’ve never (or not since before ‘Twilight’) been impressed with her and how they are now/how she turned around her image this year. She’s also never been in talk of getting any award the public can’t vote for, and now she is.
The Academy will definitely watch ‘Still Alice’ because of Julianne and look at how much Kristen gained the last time that happened. People still talk about how they cast her because of/loved her in ‘Into the Wild’ which – to my memory – is her last (and only) ‘Oscar’ movie. Of course if they all hate her in the movie, she’ll gain nothing.
So, I guess it depends on how you define being a ‘has been’. If you only talk about box office, sure. Although I’d argue Kristen never even was successful with her indies, not even during ‘Twilight’. Of course she also has no projects coming up (only the rumored ‘Seasons of Dust’) but she has three movies coming out next year, so it’s not like we will be getting a break from her (movies). So, unless her break (or ‘break’, if you don’t want to believe it) lasts for the next two years, I think it’s way too early to call her a ‘has been’.
@Name I don’t know about Moore getting K the role for Still Alice, but her husband directed the movie ‘Catch that Kid’ which Kristen was in, so at least they have known each other for a while.
From what I’ve read, there doesn’t seem to be many outstanding performances in the supporting actress category, so Kristen may possibly have a chance at a nomination. What I don’t understand is, there is a select group of critics that always praise her performances in every movie she is in, so I find it hard to believe that this time it’s any different. I haven’t seen any of her movies post-twilight, but from the clips I’ve come across all I see are the same expressions, tics, movements, etc. she does from every other movie. I suppose we’ll have to wait and see how she does in her new movies to know if she really does give an impressive performance, or it’s just the critics praising her as always for sub-par acting.
@Marin: Yeah, some critics always liked her, but she also got a lot of negative reviews, especially once she grew up. A lot of recent reviews start with “I was never impressed with Stewart but..” which is, of course, not the greatest compliment but indicates an improvement.
From what I gathered (and I haven’t seen ‘Still Alice’) she’s not really doing anything different nowadays. BUT this time, it actually fits her role. I just read the ‘Still Alice’ review from Awards Circuit and Davis puts it this way: ““Clouds and Sils Maria” and “Camp X-Ray” are terrific examples of her talents put to great use“ and “ Glatzer and Westermoreland understand her abilities and limitations but heighten them to stunning results“. He doesn’t think she will be nominated, though.
So, it doesn’t sound like she’s doing anything completely different. She’s in no way a chameleon and I don’t think she ever will be. She will never reach the heights of Chastain or Streep (in my opinion). So, if you’re looking for that, Kristen will never be able to impress you. That is not meant as a critic, I totally get not liking/being frustrated with actors like Kristen.
I like seeing Rob’s name in lists like that.

As for Nip’s lame attempt at getting an Oscar nomination, her brain trust sees this as a way to legitimize her existence. She has no relevance at all, she’s not well-liked, no studio will hire her, directors like Scorsese, Spielberg, Nolan, they all ignore her. You don’t even hear any buzz about her being up for roles, the way you do about Shailene Woodley or JenLaw.
She’s got no films lined up, she’s not getting offers. She called in favors to get the parts she’s had in the past year. Gillibert, the guy who produced On The Road got her the part in Sils Maria, which he also produced (and got Chanel to partially fund). The guy who produced WTTR also produced Equals, which is how she got that role.
Julianne got her the part in Still Alice. She’s called in all the favors she can, the well’s run dry now, which is why she’s unemployed. Her PR team thinks an Oscar nomination will send a signal that her cheating scandal is forgotten and she’s a “star” again. It ain’t happening.
Universal sent a signal when they dumped her from her own franchise. They’re making SWATH2 without her. That was a huge slap in the face, no matter how they try to spin it. She looks ridiculous, with her OTR2 pathetic Oscar attempt. She isn’t fooling her peers, they know what’s up.

A24 has listed The Rover in their For Your Consideration list http://a24awards.com/the-rover-consider including Guy for actor in a lead role and Rob in a supporting role. I doubt they will launch a campaign themselves and I don’t think Rob would start one on his own either, but at least they are putting the movie and the performances out there. Hopefully it will bring them more attention, perhaps not a nomination or a win, but more interest in the movie and the performances, which in my opinion where great.
A24 is small and new (I think their first awards season was 2013/2014), so I don’t think they will launch a campaign either. But they had a lot success at the Independent Spirit Awards last season.
I hope they get some recognition for ‘A Most Violent Year’ because I love almost everyone involved (Isaac, Chastain, Chandor, Young etc.). Chastain might have a chance at the Oscars…So it seems A24 puts all their power behind that movie.
From what I understand, they have no screenings scheduled for any of their other movies (including ‘The Rover’) which makes it pretty hard for people to remember them (unless there’s already undeniable buzz). But Jenny Slate has a good chance at the Independent Spirit Awards and there are no screenings for “Obvious Child” either. So, who knows.
If they want to bring attention to ‘The Rover’ without screenings, they need to sent out screeners (or offer digital ones). I don’t think that has happened yet but that’s not unusual (only a few have been sent out at this moment). But maybe they can’t even afford to do that? It’s a shame that smaller studios have little to no chance to make a splash at the Oscars (and a lot of other awards).
I know A24 is small and relatively new, and it would be pretty hard for them to launch a campaign for their movies (one may even be a stretch), but I think the biggest problem here was that they just didn’t know how to promote this particular movie. The Rover is a fall movie and they wrongly chose to release it with little promotion during the summer, it was never going to be able to compete with summer blockbusters, by the time it had a small chance at better numbers it was already gone from theaters.
According to an article of The Hollywood Reporter from 2011, a studio can spend hundreds of thousands (sometimes even millions) producing and distributing screeners, depending on the amount of members they want to reach from the Academy, SAG, etc. Realistically, I don’t think A24 can move forward with a campaign, at best a regular screening could do but who knows, their best might be their mos successful movie as you mentioned.
I can kind of understand the reasoning behind the release date. They probably hoped to capitalize on buzz coming out of Cannes + thought the movie would be a good counterprogram to the blockbusters, because the trailer made it look full of suspense, stylistic but still with some (gun) action. ‘Animal Kingdom’ was released in the summer, too and while it didn’t make much money in the U.S. (even slightly less than ‘The Rover’), it still got Weaver her Oscar nom.
I think the problem was that people expected so much more from Michôd. And while ‘The Rover’ was very well-reviewed, it didn’t come close to his other movie’s praise. A lot of people seemed to be disappointed by that. And without raves across the board, an a-typical (divisive?) story and bad marketing (?), only a few people showed up when the movie opened. Maybe A24 also hoped for too much, went (too) wide too soon and pulled back too quickly when it didn’t work out. They probably should have kept it small, like ‘Animal Kingdom’. But it did surprise me how little the movie made overall and especially in Australia.
I’m not sure if it would have made that much more money in the fall where it would have had to compete with more and stronger indies. Maybe it would have done better if it had visited some more film festivals in the U.S. first, we’ll never know.
IFC send out a digital screener for ‘The Babadook’ and a bunch of smaller documentaries. That seems to be an affordable option for smaller distributors. You just won’t reach those members who don’t know how to use the internet. Which might me a lot.
It’s nice that A24 is doing the “For Your Consideration” thing, since everyone involved did an outstanding job. The cinematography, sound, editing, it was all excellent. Nothing sloppy or substandard in the whole film. I don’t think it will get any nominations, but just to be considered at this point is a win.
A24’s problem is that they misread the signs and opened wide when they should have opened small and platformed. They’re new, and they made a big mistake. In a way, it was understandable.
The Rover made at least 80 “Most Anticipated” lists, and in some of them it was the #1 most anticipated. Twitter mentions were through the roof. And then it made a stellar debut at Cannes. The audience loved it, and that’s a tough audience. As it turned out, the initial European reviews were better than the ones it got in the US. But on paper, it looked like a solid hit.
So, based on all that, they thought they had a film that could pack theaters. But they did little advertising. Very few TV spots. They thought the tickets would sell themselves, but the general public had never heard of the film and didn’t even know it was in theaters. It came and went, and audiences went to see 22 Jump Street on opening weekend, a sequel that had a built in audience and tons of advertising and publicity.
And of course it’s not a comedy, or a happy, easy film. It requires attention, patience, and thought, something summer audiences are not famous for displaying.

HKN claims she never got a cease & desist letter. I truly hope all of this is for real and that she really did get the letter.
Somebody needs to stop HKN from spreading all her crazy lies. HKN or one of her cult members sent that picture of Twigs leaning in talking to the red headed guy to this trashy gossip website and used it as proof that Twigs is cheating on Rob. The website said they got a tip, and then they completely fabricated a story around that tip.
That was completely done on purpose to make Twigs look bad, HKN and her idiots have gone too far.
Apparently a Prince’s fan wrote some horny narration of Twigs dancing while Prince was performing (Sara posted it above) and HKN & Sheep have gone nuts trying to spread it through internet, of course. Actually HKN’s Tweeter account is full of this BS and retweets from other Sheep. One of them even sent a rude tweet to FKA Twigs’s account… They are trying hard to make trouble.
HKN wrote a TL saying she never received it…well, of course she is going to say that. If it was mailed to her without a signature ( registered or certified mail ) she is going to deny she ever received it. I have dealt with this kind of scum all my life, trying to collect over due money and working as a paralegal. Even if a signature was required, she doesn’t have to sign it.

I didn’t read the fanfic about Twigs. We know it is bullshit and Rob and Twigs know it as well. This is a 4 minuts audio of a Twigs Radio interview she gave in NYC for “Sway in the morning”. It’s been published today. I didn’t see any pics and I don’t think he was in Vancouver or Seattle. I live in Vancouver and the paps hound him here. I think if he was here we would’ve had pap pics. I also don’t think that one pic from the venue was him, JMO. I do believe he met up with her in SF and that’s why we have a clear pic and I’ll be surprised if there are no pap pics from SF. LA will also be big a big pic time. They seem to like to spend time together and I think that’s nice.

I totally called this, down to shopping in a vintage store. These two are getting predictable, which means they’re having a normal relationship.

Sounds like Sam may have been with them. They seem to have avoided the paps, Rob is getting really good at that.
There were two separate sightings of Rob in Vancouver, and one in Seattle, but no clear pics, so people don’t believe he was there. Since she was seen at the airport without him, I tend to believe he wasn’t there either, but it’s hard to say for sure. During all that time there were no sightings of him in LA, and he usually goes out one or two nights a week if he’s there.
She has shows in LA on Friday and Saturday, so I guess they will be christening his new house this weekend. I’m sure they will spend Thanksgiving together, even if Brits don’t celebrate. I think she has a show in Austin around that time, and Austin is music city, so that’s a good place for them to hang out anyway.
